Takachiho: The Creation of a Nation
... face. It’s not a pleasant experience.
I had started the day really early, which meant I was done with Amano Iwate shrine and Takachiho gorge by 2PM really, and since the yokagura dances weren’t until 8PM (this gives tourists time to return to their hotels, eat and bathe), I spend the afternoon wandering up and down the same paths at the gorge. I’m still not entirely sure how I cold have passed 5 hours doing nothing, but it happened.

Kumamoto Layover
... floors had central air conditioning (so nice) and various people dressed in period costumes were ether handling photo ops or offering directions. So nicely done.
Then a three hour bus ride into the mountains in Norther Kyushu, which are rainy and green and fantastic looming over the flat rice paddies, to Takachiho. Tomorrow is exploring the gorge, which is supposed to be very picturesque and then cultural things until evening.

... I didn't have much time for hiking on the day. The marshland seemed to be just burnt off and its landscape was great. I also dropped by Makinoto Pass to look for a beautiful view, but it was windy there and I couldn't stay there long. I took a few pictures and got back to the car.
