... lush a bit like Byron hinterland. Then the surf beaches and rock formations reminded me a little of point perry near Coolum. Nice! Of course this place has a style all its own we're in Japan! :) Very excited to be here. Destination: Shimoda and our home for 3 nights at Shirahama beach. It's a little surfie town that looks straight out of the seventies. Our plan is to relax after the big city. We're all glad to be here. Only drawback is the rain. We're hoping for some fine ...

... we were taken aback by the train station alone. It is huge ( you can easily get lost), with so much going on, lots of signs, people and shops!!!!! We spent some time walking around and checking it out. The building has a glass walkway high in the ceiling that you can walk and get views of the city. Nice! After checking in at a hotel near the station we decided to take the train outside the city to view the river ( they have ...

We left the hotel to drive up partway to Mt Fuji. No sooner than leaving Tokyo, we were caught up in a traffic jam for the next 30 minutes. It was rather foggy when we got to around the mountain. We were lucky to be able to see the mountain some of the time. We had a French bistro kind of lunch in a small café. We pretty much occupied the entire place. Food was surprisingly good. There was absolutely too many people around the station #5. The ...

... there we walk through the entrance gate to Perry Road. In the middle of Perry Road is a small canal, there are shops and houses on both sides, blooming hydrangeas in the middle add to the beauty of this old road. We walk to the end and back, it's pretty hot by now. We buy a small bracelet for Caroline at the souvenir shop and decide to head to Izu, our next destination. We need to crossover the Izu Peninsula from the east to the west side. The scenery along the way is pretty, ...

... train attendant passes out moist towels and takes drink orders. We get complimentary coffee or tea. For quite a while the train drives through Tokyo and its suburbs and after a while we see less houses and more green and finally the ocean. We get off the train in Atami and walk to the Nippon Car Rental across the station. Another Subaru Imprezza is waiting for us. Between Atami and Ito it is more populated than ...
