Aso to Kagoshima, a 235 km journey, the longest and at the same time the last bike ride on mainland Japan.

A cheaper and easier option would be to find a hostel for one night and then see what I do tomorrow. Still at the desk, I request the onna no hito to direct me towards Kagoshima’s cheapest establishment, at the same time getting in touch with the host I had planned for that night to tell him of my change in plans.

We felt very privileged and were treated very well in the ryokans, I'll miss Japan.
We also enjoyed the 7 samurai home village, with bonsai and the intriguing kanakasi airplane fighters museum with photos of all of them. They looked so young and an old man giving a talk about it, still a lot of interest, after all these decades. No photos allowed.

... of hours at Yufuin a lovely craft/touristy place - a little like Maleny near Brisbane - which we had been a couple of time before. There is a short walk by some flowing water where we see the same white heron type bird (with yellow feet) standing in the water waiting for grubs and such like to emerge from the bed or banks. He/she was there again.
