... a special mushroom planting drill bit. The mushroom spores are on wooden plugs, which we hammered into the holes. We watched our host go on a rampage with his backhoe to find trees for us to inoculate, knocking down what would amount to a small forest. The 1500 mushroom plugs we planted will be available to eat in two years!

... have now discovered exactly what I paid for that call and let me say you should never ever under any circumstances call anyone from the airport... I won't admit exactly what it cost because I still can't believe it myself.

The meeting spot in the airport was luckily right next to the internet cafe so I amused myself on there while waiting for my fellow trainees to arrive. I met Emma first from NZ - who became my awesome roommate. She loves the same British comedy ...

... was this speed/reaction based card game which was quite fun (also the reason the blog is going up a bit late - expect it to happen again :p)
Apparently the prefecture north of us had a metre of snow today and lots of cars got trapped, but it was actually quite warm here/Mito. I STILL LIVE IN HOPE!
Meeting the mayor tomorrow and doing a tea ceremony as well. Will report back tomorrow. :)

... of elaborate wire-mold displays, most of the flowers were not yet blooming! I guess timing is everything, and since the festival runs for about a month, apparently the best time to go is towards the end.

They're also known for "Kiku-ningyo," mannequins dressed in costumes made of chrysanthemums. We got to see those this time, and they're quite elaborate. Some of the flowers were already wilting a bit; they must have to ...
