... I was able to visit Nami's family bakery/sweet shop. We tasted tested lots of sweet treats. My favorite was chocolate with seaweed. She sent some home for my family. Country Roads
... Next up was Miyoshi Elementary. It is the smallest elementary in Miyoshi. It was a typical visit with a welcome in the gymnasium. But this time, all the grades were there (the little first and second graders were so cute!!). There was a phenomenal brass band complete with color guard and cheerleaders. Lots and lots of tea
Breakfast was a good start to a very busy first day at the Miyoshi schools. I started my visits at Hokubu E.S. I had been told beforehand that I would've harvesting rice. I didn't know, however, that the news channel was going to be there. But, first we visited with the principal, and had green tea. So, it turns out that I am pretty good at cutting and tying rice. A Day of Shock and Awe
Today we spent the day at Minama Jr HS and at Obu Sr. HS. The students were amazing and friendly and gave us a great welcome. I was shocked that the HS seemed like something out of the 1950's. For example, the girls were in sewing and keyboarding class while the boys were in the science and math classes. The sense of school culture was amazing.
