    ... than the one at Railway Village yesterday. It was certainly very impressive. I guess every train enthusiast would like to have one in his/her backyard. It's a pity again that it was all in Japanese and we couldn't understand a word of it.

    The official unveiling of the first shinkansen service was on the 1st of October, 1964, in time for the Tokyo Olympics. The trial runs had been ongoing for at least a year prior to that. ...

    ... food goes around and around, and you just grab what you want. The sushi is usually served two pieces per plate, and the plates are colour coded to signify price. We later stopped at the local tea merchants house, and he attempted to get us all drunk on cherry whiskey made in the Fukushima region of Japan, and sake made by the local high school kids. It was a very fun night.

    We have a couple days in Tokyo to recuperate, next stop, South Korea!

    ... you were in another world. That was one of the things we loved was the random alleyways with bars and cool little shops all over the place. So training went on again for another week until Friday we had a mini-graduation ceremony and got our official pins/ name badges.

    Short entry today again.
    Went to meet my host mothers sister for lunch at a restaurant in Mito today where they do sumo-style food. So big massive pot filled with everything. Apparently they have one to themselves and then go to sleep afterwards and thats how they get tank mode. It was goooood, also tried a 0% alcohol beer which was actually pretty good.
