Day 8: Shirakawa-go - Koemon Farmhouse
... new looking straw tatami floors. There was even a big screen tv in the dining room. Our room was traditional tatami style and followed the same high quality decor. Definitely a lot nicer than what we stayed in at Nikko. To start, we had a low table set up with tea and snacks in the centre of the room. That was followed by a frothy potato soup with flakes of seaweed. For our main course, I went with the A5 fillet which is the highest grade of wagyu or Japanese beef. Bon chose the A4 sirloin cut. Both dishes were very beautifully garnished with sides of potatoe, bacon, spinach and radish. For those ...
Temples, Markets and Food Sampling
... Takyama were plenty of pretty walks. And it was on one of these walks that I found yet another incredible caterpillar. This one had long hairs disguised as what looked to be moss. He refused to move once he knew I was watching him.
Each morning there were wonderful markets where you could pick up all sorts of free fruit and vegetable samples. Then added to this was the fact that all ...
