You pay for what you get A review of Hilton San Diego/Del Mar
First of all, I have to say up front that we got this hotel through priceline for a ridiculous $35/night for one night. That means this was a bargain no matter how you look at it. That said, I'll try to write this as if I spent the $140 that it's currently listed at.
The hotel is very upscale looking, conveniently located across the street from the race track, and has all the basic amenities like a restaurant (Expensive) and an outdoor pool. A personal pet peeve...they charge $11 to self-park your car. I understand, sometimes, the value of parking spaces in a downtown area but never understood why hotels with their own lots, with lots of spaces, have to nickel and dime you this way...it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Being Priceliners, we got a smaller room on the back parking lot. The walls are a bit thin, so we could hear people in the halls and above us, but with the fan on we couldn't really hear the highway. There was a dog show happening across the street and lots of folks were smuggling dogs in through the back door. (Pets are allowed at this hotel but, if they're big there's a large deposit.)
All in all, it was nice but everything's "Del Mar Expensive."
PS - The Fish Market restaurant a couple of blocks away was excellent and reasonable
