You get what you pay for... A review of Hotel Metropole Bellagio
Well, I was pretty underwhelmed with The Metropole. I stayed here for the first 3 nights of my honeymoon, and will not be returning. Yes, it is quite cheap for the area, but in spite of its lovely, waterside location it has very little to recommend it. The rooms are small and tatty. The bathrooms are dirty and in disrepair - our bath taps didn't function at all. The mini-bar was impossible to open. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything going on in all the rooms either side. And in spite of being on the waterfront, you are right by the ferry terminal, so all you hear are the diesel engines of ferries all day and night. And finally there are the beds. The Metropole's idea of a double bed, is two single divans pushed next to each other with a double sheet fitted. This is pretty poor, but when the single beds are both on wheels makes for a very uncomfortable night's sleep (and on my honeymoon!) where either my wife or I would wake up on the floor in between the two beds. I complained to the management about this ridiculous bed arrangement and asked to be moved to a room with a real double bed and was told that they didn't have any and I had to like it or lump it.
The only slight glimmer of hope was the bottle of spumante that they delivered on the first evening because it was our honeymoon. However, given they then failed to clear it away for the next 3 days, the gesture was kind of spoiled.
My advice would be to avoid it. The Hotel du Lac next door looked a lot nicer.
