You get what you pay for... A review of Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville
We stayed here March 2005 after getting a deal from Priceline - $50 - for one night only. We were visiting relatives in TN and decided to drive up to visit Chimney Rock. First, the hotel is STILL renovating. We got to our room and discovered that even though the room was completely renovated the hallway was not and only one of the doors leading into that part of the hotel was accessible - you need a card key to get in. I had to ask the non-english speaking cleaning lady for chairs. Later on that evening, after we explored Downtown Asheville, at around 9:00pm, we discovered that we didnt have any hot water, no water pressure in the bathtub, no wireless internet access and that some of the plugs in the room werent working. I didnt mind the plugs and the internet access but after discovering the water situation, that was the last straw. They did send someone to try to fix the water but he wasnt able to - then, I discovered that the guests staying next to us were moved earlier that day for water issues too. They could've informed us of this problem but they didnt. So eventually, at around 10pm, we had to move rooms from the 1st to the 2nd floor, no elevators here either. At the new room, I discovered that the balcony locks didnt work and that the soap holder in the bathtub was broken, to the point that if we slipped and fell in the tub we could've definitely cut ourselves from the jagged edges but hey, there was hot water, water pressure and internet access. To makeup for it, they gave us free breakfast the following morning in their dining room. I spoke to the morning shift manager and all he did apologize and even told me to write their management. This hotel is changing from Holiday Inn to a different chain. I saw the reviews here but was hoping that by the time we arrived that it would be finished. I told the manager that they shouldnt be moving guests to a room unless they check and make sure that everything is satisfactory. I dont think we'll be going back here again.
