Would Definitely Recommend This Hotel! A review of Manhattan Centre Hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Rockefeller Center Hotel from October 12, 2006 - October 16, 2006. We had a wonderful time in New York City, and this hotel helped to make our vacation a very positive and fun experience.

The location is excellent. You are right by Rockefeller Center and about a one minute walk from the skating rink and the plaza where the Today Show films. Times Square and the Theatre District are short walks away. You are also close to subway stations which are very convenient for visiting other areas of the city.

Check-in and check-out were very easy. You have to option of checking in or out yourself at the self service kiosks. We checked in with a hotel employee, who was very nice. The process took only a minute or two. We used to kiosk to check ourselves out at the end of our stay - it was very simple and your statement prints out at the kiosk for you.

The lobby is small as people have mentioned, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It is nicely decorated, as is the rest of this brand new hotel. The elevators require you to swipe your room card before accessing any floors - I found this to be a reassuring security measure. One downside is that the staff and guests use the same elevators, which I didn't find to be a big deal but some people may not enjoy sharing the ride with towels or cleaning supplies.

Our room (509) was fairly large by NYC standards and had a LCD TV (small but nice, and mounted above the desk, which had ample space to work if desired), two nightstands and an open closet area with two drawers. I had to use a nightstand drawer for the rest of my clothes but we ended up having plenty of space. Noise level was very minimal and we found the full size bed to be pretty comfortable.

Our room was a handicapped room, which may have accounted for its larger size. Our bathroom was large to accommodate a wheelchair. The only downside of this was that the shower area was just a curtained off area of the floor, with no ledge to separate the rest of the bathroom. The result was a lot of water on the floor but a few towels solved this problem.

Housekeeping was excellent and cleaned our room everyday after we left, often in the afternoon. They were very respectful of the "Privacy Please" sign we hung outside the door and never disturbed us. On our last night, our maid left a note thanking us for her tips. I found this to be a nice touch - you often don't see these people but it reminded us that they are always working hard to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

The staff was helpful when we asked for restaurant and store suggestions or locations. When I requested two extra pillows, they were brought up within 5 minutes.

We did not use room service but did order from one of the local deli's in the area that deliver to the hotel (there are menus in the room listing restaurants in the area that deliver to the hotel - the hotel charges an additional $2.50 service fee for this). The hotel staff brought the meal up to our room and just charged our room account. It was very convenient. The food was tasty and warm (soup, a hamburger, a grilled chicken sandwich and fries, our total bill was $34.55 with the hotel service charge. Pricey but worth it for good food if you don't want to go out).

All rooms have free high-speed internet. You will be able to hook up a laptop to the TV monitor, although this was not yet available when we stayed. There is also a small gym - which we did not use but did walk by. There are all new machines and weights. The hotel will also bring you an "in-room" gym for your convenience.

This hotel is in an excellent location but it does get quite quiet at night since there are many businesses in the area that close. We never felt unsafe walking in the area at night and there are plenty of restaurants and bars just a short distance from the hotel.

I highly recommend this hotel. Although it just recently opened and is not quite near completion (we noticed some stairwells are still unpainted and the restaurant is not yet open) this hotel offers stylish, comfortable rooms in a great location.
