Worthy of Destination Status A review of The Westin Sydney
Examplary hotel in all respects. The hotel was built around a revered landmark in Sydney, the old central post office. Westin decided to preserve the landmark intact and built an extraordinary, obsenely expensive, vast, glassed-ceilinged atrium that links the historic building with the new one. Rather that looking like one of those cliche, tired Hyatt-style atriums, the one at the Westin works beautifully in accentuating the grand old building while incorporating an elegant modern style. Even if you don't decide to stay here, you definitely should put this hotel as one of the must-see sights of the city. The urban plaza in front of the hotel, Martin Place, is one of the main urban gathering points in the city, and the location is central to most of Sidney's tourist sites.
The Tower rooms are a knock out. Huge, and with very large windows overlooking parts of the city. The bathroom is a work of art...I am not kidding. The bathtub has a glass wall that overlooks the bedroom and the sunlight, or, you can lower the electronic scrim and have total privacy. There is a separate, high tech glass shower that I wish was in my house. The beds are wonderfully comfortable. Service is sublime all around. The numerous restaurants are all terrific. And, there is a great business center -- although you may not need it since there is internet access in the room either via TV or by plugging in your laptop. I cannot imagine a better stay in Sydney than at the Westin Martin Place.
