Worth avoiding A review of Rydges on Swanston Melbourne
I stayed at the Rydges Carlton in November 2005. The check-in was fine but after asking for a quiet room I was assured that I had one. It was actually opposite the lift and situated on the front of the hotel which has loud road and tram noise even on the third floor. The late room service menu is very limited after 10 pm. The bath outlet drain was blocked and water containing "Drano" covered the floor after letting out the plug. I waited for 20 minutes for help and had to ring twice. The next day I was just told that the plumbers had been in fixing a problem: there was no apology made. The breakfast was extremely ordinary: $20 for a very basic hot buffet: at 8.30 on a Sunday most of the fruit had gone and the fried eggs were hard and rubbery; top ups were slow there were not enough waiting staff available to clear tables and even provide knives and forks. I would definitely not go there again.
We would be more then happy to welcome you back to the hotel in the future for a more pleasant stay.
