Wonderful! We're going back! A review of Hotel Fauchere
At last Milford has a first class hotel!
We live in New York City, and for years we've been going to Milford, PA to spend relaxing weekends and staying with friends who have a house there. Just this summer, the old Hotel Fauchere (which has been closed for 30 years) reopened after having been beautifully restored. So, on our last visit, instead of staying with our friends, we spent two nights at the Fauchere. It was nothing short of fantastic!!! We were thrilled.
The building itself is a lovely creamy-white Italianate structure with dark green shutters, built in the 1870s. You know as soon as you walk in the door and step into the broad center hall with its marble floor (original) and Hudson River School paintings on the walls that this is no ordinary hotel.
Our room was luxuriously appointed, with a flat-panel TV, a bottle of wine and bottled water (courtesy of the house) waiting for us on the table, fresh flowers, complimentary toiletries by Kiehl's, superb bed linens and a supremely comfortable mattress. And it's quiet! We slept soundly.
The restaurant, which is on the first floor, was first-rate. The food was excellent, and the young waiters and waitresses were friendly and reasonably prompt. Local people told us that the restaurant already has the reputation of being the best in town, and that certainly squares with our own experience.
The decor throughout is elegant and serene. Downstairs, the Bar Louis has a distinctly upscale, contemporary look and a warm atmosphere.
To be honest, we were enchanted. We expected to like ithe Fauchere from what we'd seen of the exterior on previous visits to Milford. But now we've fallen in love with it, and we're going back.
