Wonderful staff - clean and tidy facilities A review of Anchorage Marriott Downtown
I recently stayed at the Marriott Downtown in Anchorage for 9 days. During this time, my husband and I were very pleased with the services provided. For starters, the staff are the most pleasant friendly people around - and were very accommodating to our needs.
The rooms were clean, and the housekeeping staff a delight. The room service meals, and hotel restaurant were very nice, and the lobby bar was great too. The conference facilites were really well presented and it was a great venue to hold a conference.
The pool and fitness rooms were great - clean and fresh. The lobby internet room was small, and always full of people. The ATM was also located in the computer room. A few times when I went into the computer room to get cash out there were men looking at porn on the computers - so they are obviously not content blocked (parents beware).
One problem with the hotel was the so called 'business ready' rooms were not business ready. We had to call the internet service providors about 3 times a day to reset the internet connection so that we could access the internet from our room. When we were finally connected the service was frustratingly slow.
There is no parking available to hotel stayers, but there is paid parking available for $6 per 24hrs, or $10 for valet parking per 24hrs. Parking is free on the street on weekends.
The Marriott Downtown is walking distance to heaps of good restuarants. We have found Orso is the best in the downtown area. The Captain Cook Hotel nearby apparently has a great menu too, but I haven't tried that one. The bus stops right near the Marriott so it's nice and handy.
In the complex, there is a gift shop, and a great art store which sells loads of native paintings, skin art and carvings.
If staying downtown in Anchorage, I would definitely stay at the Marriott, but I still rate the #1 place to stay in Anchorage as the Homewood Suites (about 5 minutes drive from downtown - you need a car).
