Wonderful hotel. A review of Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce - Luxe Worldwide Hotel
We stayed here August 18-19, 2004 for the time we were in Brugge for our honeymoon. We booked over email from their website with no problems. The hotel is a fair walk from the train station but about a 5-6 euro taxi ride. With our small, rolling suitcases, I preferred the walk since we were able to orient ourselves with the city faster...plus the sites along the way were great. It was about a 20 minute walk. The hotel is on a street leading into the Markt, the main town square. If you can get yourself there, (which has a tall belfry that can be seen from the train station) then you will find the hotel easily. Driving to the location may be tricky as almost all streets in the town are one way. We rented a moped while we were there and found out how difficult driving can be until you figure the city out a little. (I'd recommend the moped too!!) The entrance was tucked away on Wollestradt street with a sign on a building signaling the courtyard where the hotel entrance is located. The street is full of lace, tapestry, and chocolate shops geared toward tourists. Although I like to stay away from tourist places like that usually, this was not a problem with the location of the hotel. All of the people at reception were friendly. We were allowed to check in early. We stayed on the 3rd floor of the over 300 year old building. There is no air conditioning in this hotel, but it wasn't a problem for us as it was cool when we were there. The hotel is right on a canal, with some rooms overlooking it. The breakfast room also overlooks it. The breakfast included in the price of the room was nice with pastries, cereal, juices, eggs, cheese, meat, yogurts. The only problem we had was when we wanted to check out early to catch a morning train. The reception desk is closed late at night and didn't reopen until 7:30am. The front door was locked too so we could not leave. Our train left at 7:57, but we made it in time after the poor reception clerk hurried to run the credit card and call a taxi. This wouldn't be a problem for most people though. As friendly and accommodating as the reception clerks were, if we would have suspected that the desk wouldn't have been open at that time, I'm sure we could have made arrangements ahead of time. This place was great, and I would recommend it to anyone.
