Wonderful Hotel and Food A review of Anchorage Marriott Downtown
July 22 thru August 1, 2004
We stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Anchorage. The staff was exceedingly friendly, very helpful and we highly recommend this hotel.
We ate in the dining room for breakfast every morning.
The food was good and although the service was slow we enjoyed the servers.
The dining room is the same one for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lunch portions were huge.
The dinner service is very good and the food was very good. We never had a bad meal.
Our rooms(3) were nicely appointed, carpets, bedding and bathroom tile very clean. The views of Cook's Inlet are breathtaking. We were even able to see Mt. McKinley from our rooms on the 18th floor.
The pool, exercise room and swimming area are very well kept and I would say that the tour business is booming at this hotel. With the cruise ships and independent traveler alike the hotel was full every night.
It's 4 star in my book.
We had the best meal of our trip at The Crows Nest Restaurant in The Captain Cook Hotel. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. No rushing and the views are beyond wonderful. Definitely 5 star.
We also ate at The Hilton Hotel, Top of the World restaurant and the service was terrible, the food just okay and it has no ambience. The prices were $$$$. 3 star at best.
We ate at The Glacier Brewhouse and in my opinion that is overrated. The food was excellent but we waited for almost two hours to be seated.
The food at Humpy's was great for a small tavern type restaurant. Good service, friendly servers and a hot meal.
Anchorage is a walking city and we were able to enjoy the late daylight hours and had a wonderful visit. Our trips to Seward, Girdwood, Homer, Talkeetna and the Kenai National Park were all highlights. Salmon fishing on the Russian River and Kenai River was just great!
