Wonderful Hampton Inn A review of Hampton Inn & Suites

My husband & I stayed at this hotel 7/9/06-7/10/06. We were on a driving trip up & down the West Coast, and we stopped in Redding on our way back home to San Diego, CA. SInce our trip involved long days driving, we checked in late at night (11pm) and had to leave fairly early in the morning. We were pleased to get an upgrade, and pleased that the hotel and room met all the quality standards we have come to expect from Hampton Inns, and seemed even above the usual standards in some ways. I think our room ended up being a suite, but it was quite large with a separate couch, kitchenette area with microwave, fridge, coffee, tea and popcorn, nice big bed with great bedding materials, and everything in the hotel looked very new and clean. There was even a grand piano in the lobby area, which looked nicer to me than some more expensive brand hotels we have stayed in! Some days earlier on our trip, we stayed at a horrible Hampton Inn in Oregon, so this Redding hotel was a complete 180 degrees difference. We couldn't get out of the Oregon hotel fast enough, but the Redding hotel was so nice, we actually wished we didn't have to rush out in the morning. The included breakfast was also good and met the usual Hampton Inn standards, with bagels, muffins, cereals, fruit, oatmeal, a hot selection, juices, teas, and coffee. In the few encounters we had with staff, they also seemed quite nice, pleasant, and friendly. The few "problems" I can think of are very minor and did not detract from our stay at all: the layout of the bathroom & sink was perhaps not ideal in that the towels were all located outside of the shower area, and I'm not sure of the neighborhood the hotel is in as far as sightseeing, proximity, etc. We were just there for a quick overnight stop on our drive, but the hotel did seem a little further off the freeway than some others clustered closer, and maybe seemed a little more of an industrial/business type neighborhood, where it wouldn't be ideal to walk to sights, restaurants, etc. But as I said, overall, I would recommend this hotel highly in a heartbeat, and the price we paid was a very good value.
