Won't go back A review of River Terrace Resort & Convention Center
I made reservations at River Terrace over the Internet and after this experience I am not sure I will ever do it that way again. The marketing for River Terrace that you see on the Internet makes it seem very appealing. In my opinion, the only thing this place has going for it is the stream on the property and the ducks that live on it. We had a mountain view room...the view was okay, but we were on the third floor of a building on a very steep hill, far removed from the pool, stream, or restaurant. As I have knee problems I was unable to walk from the room to anywhere else on the property - had to get in the car and drive down to the pool! Also, I was very surprised that there was no elevator in our building. I had to climb 2 flights of stairs to get to the room. The room itself was badly in need of a remodel. Paint was peeling, furniture was outdated, and you could see where they had ripped curtain rods off the balcony doors and did not bother to paint over it! Our first night we were only provided one washcloth for four people and about 1/4 of a roll of toilet paper. We complained the next morning and they did remedy this. No fridge in room...the ad I saw didn't specify fridges, but I guess it's been so long since I stayed in a hotel without one I just assumed there would be one. I was wrong. We ate at the restaurant twice. It was passable, nothing special. The best thing about it was the river view while we ate at the restaurant. Even the grounds were in need of some work, paint, cleaning, etc. Too bad the rooms were nothing like the lobby...it looked good - clean and new and modern! I will look elsewhere next time we go to Gatlinburg.
