With some work - could be 4 stars... A review of Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront
My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt Jacksonville in May of 2005. We were on a getaway from Gainesville for the night. We had stayed at the Hilton in the past (across the river). That hotel is fine, but getting seriously long in the tooth. So, we decided to try the rebadged Adam's Mark. We booked a pre-paid special rate of $89.00/night. This was to be for a basic room, but they kindly upgraded us to a King Executive on the top (19th) floor. I would recommend requesting a room on this floor as it provides easy access to the rooftop pool, sauna, and excercise facilities. I agree with other posters who say that this hotel is not up to typical Hyatt standards. I hope that things will improve in the near future. First of all, know that this is a convention hotel (approx. 1,000 rooms). While the hotel is extremely clean and the staff is extremely friendly, the hotel has a very cold/sterile feel to it. It seriously lacks charm. The lobby resembles an airport more than a hotel. I can't comment on food service as we did not eat in the hotel. The pool area was nice and clean and the pool/hot tub were heated. However, there is no pool bar/food service which is a shame. You need to use a phone to call downstairs to order anything and it takes forever to arrive (plus you pay a $2.00 delivery fee and 19% gratuity). They have a bar area but it's shut down and only used for private parties. It should be open, especially on the weekends. While we didn't use the fitness facilities, they appeared well equipped with excellent views. The bathroom facilities adjacent to the pool were spotless. Plenty of clean towels are provided at the pool area. The room itself was spacious and clean, but nothing special. While a large bathroom, the tub/shower combo was tiny and outdated. The furnishings were barely appopriate for a Holiday Inn. Beware of where you book your room as it can be a treck from the elevators. So, if you have any type of disability, be sure to book near an elevator. They do provide evening turn down service but you have to call and request it. The parking situation is a joke. It's $15.00 per day for valet. This is the only way they guarantee security. You can park it yourself in the same secure lot, but it will still cost you $10.00. Upon check out they didn't have enough valets and it took over 20 minutes before our car arrived. So, call down for your car before leaving your room. Again, it was an OK stay. It was clean, the staff was friendly/accomodating, but the hotel is definitely not up to Hyatt standards. We will be returning to Jacksonville in July and plan to try the remodeled Omni. This hotel is well suited to meetings and conventions (or a pre cruise overnight). It's not a place for a "weekend getaway".
