Why I stay at Deadwood Dicks A review of Deadwood Dick's
I reserve a room each year for the Black Hills rally at Deadwood Dicks. It is my favorite trip of the year, and one of the reasons is this hotel. It seems to hold the atmosphere and the nostalgia of Deadwood although the building was built after Wild Bill and Calamity Jane were legend. It is close to the main drag where most of the eateries and watering holes are. The antique Otis elevator is like stepping back in history a hundred years. The reason one comes to Deadwood is to experience this feeling. Remember the movie "Somewhere in Time" where Christopher Reeves goes to the Grand Hotel and gets transformed back about 100 years to meet the love of his life? If he had gone to the Ritz Carlton, the movie wouldn't have made sense.
My motorcycle group from Kirkwood Mo meets in the bar here each year to start the week off. Plaques on the wall attest to how long this tradition has been going on.
