What a pleasant surprise! A review of Floor Hotel
I am quite excited to be writing the first review for the Joe Hotel Prague on tripadvisor.com and even more happy that I am able to give it is a 5-star rating!
This was my first time in Prague and as such I had no idea which areas to focus on when searching for accommodation, never mind which specific hotels to try. I was looking for something that was in a good location and a good star rating, but without the mega expensive price tag.
Having searched and searched (and searched some more) I eventually decided that I was not going to compromise on the location...I wanted to be central and didn't want to have to rely on public transport to get around. I came across the Joe Hotel as there was a special offer on the room rates for the weekend I wanted. I have to say, it was a bit of a gamble because there were no reviews available and it did seem cheap for a 4-star hotel on Na Prikope 13 (central location).
I'd already heard from people contributing to the Prague forums on this web site that the Joe Hotel is fairly new as it was the Royal Hotel & Casino until recently. I'd also heard that the hotel was undergoing some renovations. I was therefore not surprised to find when we arrived that building work was underway in the main lobby, restaurant area etc. The building work did not continue over the weekend, however, and it really wasn't an inconvenience for us at all. The Joe Restaurant is just over the road and breakfast vouchers were provided for us to use in this restaurant because of the building work taking place in the hotel itself. We were so impressed with the Joe Restaurant that we ate there one evening too!
The reception staff in the hotel spoke excellent English and were very friendly and helpful. Our room was traditionally decorated and had all the modern amenities (satellite TV, mini bar, coffee facilities etc).
I have to say, the location of the hotel was brilliant...perfect for us. Just 1 minute walk from Wenceslas Square, 5 minutes from the old town and 10 minutes from the river. The street seemed to be the main shoppong street (a bit like London's Oxford St) and the rooms are above the shops. This meant that it was nice and busy in the day but was not noisy at night.
A mini bus from the airport to the Namesty Republiky which is at the end of the Na Prikope street is just 90 CZK each, which is only £2. A word of warning though, if you get a Cedaz mini bus from the desk at the airport without specifying that you want to be dropped off at the Nam. Rep. they will take you 50 metres closer to the hotel and charge something like 500 CZK (the bus can't actually go up to the front of the hotel as it is in a pedestrian zone anyway). It is a 6-7 minute walk up the main street to the hotel from where the mini bus stops.
I heard that the renovation work in the hotel is expected to be finished some time in June but I really wouldn't let it put you off. If you want a hotel with a gym, spa, pool etc then go for one of the big chain hotels further out...but if you are going to Prague to enjoy the city and all you want from the hotel is a great location, excellent room, friendly staff and a reasonable price then in my opinion the Joe is a good choice.
I'd heard that the weather is always poor in Prague, the people are unfriendly and everything is expensive. My experience was therefore a pleasant surprise as I found it to be exactly the opposite!
