What a find! A review of Sugar Loaf Lodge
The Sugar Loaf Lodge is the best deal in Sedona! We pulled into town at dusk and decided to stay for the night. We priced several hotels and this one was by far the best deal!
I was immediately won over by it's gravel parking areas and big red rocks around the grounds. A lot of Sedona is overpriced yet trying to hang on to rustic roots- this was a legit highway motel that met our needs of a place to crash with a beautiful view in the morning.
The location is great- a few hundred yards from Airport road. We hiked there in the morning. Keep going toward the "Y" and it's a left turn toward the Oak Creek Canyon and a right toward Tlaquepaque.
We found a great nightlife at the Casa Rincon- further west on 89. Flamenco guitarist, outdoor pit fire and prickly pear margaritas that were the best I've ever had! A must drink! We didn't eat, but the dinners did look great.
The Sugar Loaf is super cozy-- towels and sheets like you'd have at your own house, well worn and soft, bordering on replaceable. Everything was clean. This place has been there for a while, but it's well-loved, not dingy.
Some rooms have sliding glass doors, which was a little scary to me at first, but there were interior locks. It was quiet all night too.
There was free WiFi internet, which was a nice perk since most places actually charge $10 daily for access.
I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good bed for the night at a deal in Sedona (that's not a timeshare sale!). There are plenty of other places to be if the lap of luxury is your style. Low maintenance, earthy types will find the Sugar Loaf just where they'd like to kick off their red dusty boots after a day around the vortex.
