Westin should do what they can to sell this property... A review of The Westin Southfield Detroit
After dining at Tribute (absolutely fantastic) my wife and I decided to stay at the Westin in Southfield (it was our anniversary) I had paid $120 for a regular room but used 7000 of my Starwood preferred guest points to upgrade to a suite with a whirlpool.
The place was jammed when we arrived at 10pm on a Saturday. There were people everywhere and the Valet was running ragged. I found it unusual to be charged $15 for valet since parking isn't a premium but I paid it anyway. The entire lobby was essentially chaos.
We were given our key to a Honeymoon suite. The room was tired and there were stains on the carpet. The TV and the lamp on the desk didn't work. There was no cd player and the whirlpool had bleeding rust stains emanating from the jets. It was disgusting. The bathroom was old and also looked worn out. The shelf in the bathroom was painted wood when it should have been marble or granite. Also, the toilet kept running after a flush.
My wife and I packed all of our stuff and went home. It was so bad I didn't even stay the night. Stangely when I told the front desk the room was unacceptable and I wasn't going to stay they simply said "No problem, you won't be charged" No effort was made to try and resolve my issues.
In comparison to the Westin Grand Bohemian in Orlando this place is a dump. I'm just very happy I was within driving distance to my home.
