We loved our stay at the Glendeven Inn--Highly Recommended! A review of Glendeven Inn
We stayed one night at the Glendeven Inn in March 2004. Our room was the Garret, on the top floor, and it was lovely. The room was tastefully and carefully decorated and immaculately clean. We loved the crown moulding, the four windows with ocean views, the cozy sofa with a reading lamp right next to it, and especially the wonderfully comfortable bed with lots of down pillows, a down comforter and soft white linens.
We arrived at 7 pm and did a late check-in and dined at the delightful Cafe Beaujolais in nearby Mendocino. We found our experience at Glendeven to be very private. Unlike some bed and breakfasts where you have a great deal of interaction with the proprietors and other guests, the only time we saw anyone was when our breakfast was delivered in the morning. I personally prefer this type of bed and breakfast experience. It was as if we had discovered this lovely house in a beautiful location and had it all to ourselves. Our breakfast was delicious--with homemade scones, a tasty baked egg dish and freshly squeezed Sicilian red orange juice.
The landscaping around Glendeven is beautiful and the art gallery next door is definitely worth a visit.
The bathroom in the Garret has only a shower so if you'd like a tub it might be worth selecting one of Glendeven's other rooms.
Another reviewer mentioned the inn's location on Highway 1. Glendeven is on Highway 1 but it is set back from the main road. Many of the hotels and inns in the area are on Highway 1--there just aren't a lot of other roads in the area. We did not find the noise of passing cars to be excessive nor did it disturb the peaceful tranquility of the Inn.
