Watch out for the sting A review of Meriton Serviced Apartments Kent Street

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in Nov 06. It is a recently opened apartment hotel in the Spanish Quarter of the Sydney CBD, very close to Darling Harbour and China Town; a few minutes walk to Town Hall train station, the QVB and CBD shops; about 15 minutes walk to Circular Quay and The Rocks.

All up a great location. Unfortunately the room we stayed in had an air conditioner that only heated, a dishwasher that made all the right sounds but did not actually wash the dishes (no water) and the shower recess was poorly finished and leaked. There was a threatneing note in the in-room info that dishes left unwashed at the end of the stay would incur a $100 (!) cleaning fee. When we went to check out we had misplaced one of the little e-cards that hotels give you to access the rooms. The hotel wanted to charge us $100 for the replacement of the card - they said that it was a "security" card and that it was the replacement cost (just like it would cost $100 to wash a few dishes?). We were lucky that I thought I may have dropped it in a shop and, fortunately, they had found and kept it.

If the card is indeed worth $100, and given that other hotels really don't care if you return an e-card or not, the hotel should have drawn our attention to this on check in. Frankly I was very disappointed and as there are many other fabulous places to stay in Sydney, I won't be going here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
