Very satisfying A review of Comfort Suites Lake George
I just spent the weekend (6/22-6/24) there with my wife and 2 kids and it was a pleasant surprise. It was a last minute getaway and I booked the room for $150/night on the same day I arrived.
It was our first time at Lake George and I usually stay at "moderate" hotel chains like Sheraton or Marriott. Lake George doesn't seem to have a lot of those big chain hotels, but instead, it is a motel paradise. I don't want to sound snobbish, but I prefer the larger hotel chains because they tend to be cleaner and nicer.
However, this Comfort Suites is brand new - the front desk told me it was only 1 month old. The rooms are not what I think of as a typical suite, but still spacious enough (it has a mini fridge, microwave, and sofa, but no sink, stove, or dining table. Everything was new and clean and the beds were fresh and very comfortable. The t.v. had a lot of channels which was nice.
They had a small, but nice pool - it was indoor and had a spacious hot tub, a separate toddler section, and one of those twisty slides. The breakfast was a step up from your traditional continental breakfast. They had a waffle machine and always had a hot "egg" dish and breakfast meat, along with your traditional continental fare. It was more than plenty for a quick breakfast. I think they underestimated its popularity as there was always a shortage of seating.
The staff was one of the the friendlier ones I'd ever seen and helped make the stay quite relaxing. If you have a family with kids (and there were a fair amount there), this place is excellent. Lake George is a very relaxing, slow paced area with fresh air and beautiful scenery all around.
Our other favorites at Lake George:
Fort William Henry - educational and fun
Minnie-Ha-Ha paddleboat - cruise Lake George (her sister boat has dinner and lunch cruises)
Six Flags Great Escape - kids
JC Montana - good food, friendly staff, and good kids menu in Lake George Village
