Very pleased!! A review of The Raphael Hotel, Autograph Collection
We recently stayed at the Raphael Hotel and were very pleased. The place has a charming historic feel that makes you feel comfortable. We stayed in Room 710 - a corner 2-room suite (I think they're all suites) so we had 3 windows (that opened for fresh air) and even though 2 windows faced the parking lot, we were up high enough that it didn't matter. If the view is important to you, ask for a room facing the Plaza. The bedroom had a comfy king bed with lots of pillows, armoire w/tv, 2 nightstands (only complaint was no light in closet) and the other room was spacious with a sofa, coffee table, end tables, desk &chair with convenient internet hookup (or you can pay and get internet via tv), side chair & table, minibar, plenty of lamps - I don't know what else you woudl need. I spent one whole day at the Plaza and didn't see everything - lots of upscale shops, lots of nice restaurants, a cinema, Barnes & Noble, Eddie Bauer, William-Sonoma, a great Irish pub, and you don't have to go to 18th & Vine for good jazz... just go across the street to either the Plaza III steakhouse or the Fairmont. And there's a walking/running trail nearby - all the info is in your room. The Plaza puts out an excellent map of the shopping area - I picked it up in one of the shops but it's probably available at the front desk - they should put those in each room as well. We had dinner, breakfast and cocktails at the Raphael on different days and all were excellent - the menu changes every Thursday... be sure to have the tuna tartar appetizer if it's on the menu and the wild mushroom soup was also exceptional. We plan to go back.
