Very nice stay - recommended A review of Golden Nugget Laughlin
I stayed at the Golden Nugget Laughlin from 1/18 through 1/20. After reading some of the reviews of Laughlin hotel/casinos I was VERY apprehensive about my trip. However, the Golden Nugget exceeded my expecations. The room was clean. The carpet was clean and the furniture was comfortable (2 over-stuffed chairs w/table, desk with chair and bed). The only room issues, and they are minor: bathroom fan would not turn off, but the noise it generated was solved by simply closing the bathroom door. Also, and this is probably more personal preference, but their cable line-up did not include a news channel (CNN, MSNBC). Only included Headline News, which is news dumbed-down. I wanted the real thing. I arrived about 10:30 a.m. on a Sunday (check-in is not until 3 pm). The front desk graciously allowed me into my room 4 and a half hours early (I was prepared to check my luggage and come back later).
Very friendly staff throughout.
The casino is very small. I visited several (most) casinos during my stay and it was by far the smallest. There may be a total of 6 or 7 blackjack tables, one craps table and I don't recall seeing a roulette table, though there may have been one. For gambling, I recommed either the Ramada Express across the street or the Flamingo Hilton (a bit of a walk, but worth it - more like a Vegas casino). The buffet at the Golden Nugget was closed for reconstruction, however the didn't tell me that when I reserved the room. No big deal, as there are plenty of buffets within walking distance. I had the breakfast buffet at the Ramada Express, and while nothing special, certainly not bad at all.
And very friendly staff.
Overall, highly recommended, especially based on other reviews I've read for other hotels in Laughlin. If you're expecting the Bellagio, yeah, you'll be disappointed. But if you want a nice, clean, comfortable room, go with the Golden Nugget.
