Very nice hotel, but........ A review of Westin Annapolis
My husband & I traveled to Annapolis for a jazz show at the wonderful Ramshead Tavern on August 11th. It's truly one of the best venues in the DC/MD/VA area. We decided to make it a getaway-from-the-kids night & spent the night at the brand spanking new Westin in the heart of Annapolis. And when I say new, I mean the hotel's only been open 3 weeks. Everything in it smells new. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending how sensitive your nose is. Mine is very sensitive, so initially the new carpet, new floor finish, new bedding smells kind of bothered me, but I adjusted.
From the moment we arrived, the level of service was impeccable. From the very eager valet, who we declined ($18 a day for valet parking, $10 to self park), to the wonderful front desk clerk, who was polite, personable & efficient, to the room service server, who was eager, upbeat & accomodating. Westin is obviously trying to take service up a notch and are succeeding very well at this property.
There were a few minor issues. The sheets were hard. This made sleeping a little difficult, even on the "heavenly bed". But as my husband pointed out, the hotel is brand new, so the sheets would be too. Also, the decor is the new sleek, ultra-modern look that hotels are leaning towards now. It's ok, but the colors used made the room seem dark & somewhat small. Also, the hallways got a little noisy towards the evening, but I think a lot of families were in town for Naval Academy activities. You could easily hear people talking in the hallway & doors slamming. Housekeeping was still on our floor around 6:00 pm cleaning rooms, which I thought was rather late. Their talking & going in & out of rooms was somewhat annoying. But they have a job to do, so I lived with it.
The room itself is nice. Flat screen TV, wonderful complementary toiletries, dual shower head, huge robes and Starbucks in-room coffee service.
All-in-all, we had a very nice stay and would probably stay here again, although the spaciousness of the Residence Inn is always tempting. The hotel's proximity to West St.. and the Marine Corp. Stadium, will make it a great choice for anyone traveling to Annapolis. Go soon while it's still new !!!!!!
