Very Nice, Great Location & Rate A review of BEST WESTERN PLUS The Normandy Inn & Suites
Stayed there for a Saturday night in August while catching a couple Twins games. It is very clean with nice size rooms. Truthfully I can't rate everything because I didn't use everything. I was only there 1 night and all I needed was a place to crash between games. The room had all the essentials (hair dryer, iron/board, toiletries, lots of light, full length mirror, desk, cable TV, etc.). I would have liked to have a safe in the room, but no luck. Didn't notice an in-room internet connection, but didn't look too hard for it since I didn't have a laptop with me and they offer free internet service in the lobby anyway (a HUGE bonus). Pool was decent, but not too big. They have a nice piano bar off the lobby. The hotel is only about 6 blocks from the Metrodome and 2 blocks from the light rail system, easy walking distance to both. I didn't have a car, but they had ample secure parking on site which I believe was free for guests (about $7 for non-guests). A/C worked like a charm, although it may be a bit noisy for those who like it quiet. Which brings me to the one big knock I have on this place, the walls are pretty thin and you can hear anything above a normal speaking voice quite clearly in the next room. If you are actually trying to eavesdrop, you can hear every word regardless of how softly spoken. So... keep the A/C blower turned up and watch what you say! The beds were comfortable but the pillows were not. Bring your own if you can or just deal with theirs. They offer free cookies and milk in the evening and free breakfast in the morning (I didn't have either so can't say if they're good).
Bottom Line... Is it the lap of luxury, no. Is it a nice, safe, clean place to stay with convenient access to everything for about half the price of a downtown luxury hotel, yes. Would I stay there again, probably.
