Very good budget option A review of Hanalei Colony Resort
My husband and I rencently returned form a trip to Hawaii. We stayed 3 ngihts Oct. 3-7 at Hanalie Colony REesort. This is an excellent choice for those who want to stay on the north shore but don't want to pay exhorbident prices and don't mind doing with out Air condition and bell men.
We had an ocean front 2 bedroom condo (they only have two bedrooms on property) for $300 a night. THey also have garden view for less. It was VERY CLEAN, even the windows were squeeky clean and there were lots of ocean fronting windows. The furniture was rattan with both bedrooms having king beds and there were two bathrooms.
We were upstairs and had a fantastic ocean view with the ocean not more than 15 fet away. WOW what a view. we even got to see an NCL ship sail by one day. The balcony was huge with lots of room. The ocean is always rough here so going in the water is forbidden but you can walk the beach. Looking to our right down the beach we coud see the Princville resort in the distance on the other side of Hanalie Bay and looking to the left about a mile down was Tunnels beach.
They do have laundry facilities, small pool& hot tub as well as a day spa and BBQ grills. They are very informal almost like family. You are very close to both Tunnels and Kee beach. There are no TVs in the condo or phones to promote quietness and peace for everyone there. There are phones in the office and by the pool. No air conditioning ;but plenty of trade winds and ceiling fans.
The only thing which is silly is that you are so close to the ocean that unlike a sound machine you can't turn down the sound of the ocean. One night it was especially windy so that the waves were very loud and woke us up. I thought for a minute a hurricane was coming ashore :-)
It is not fancy but quiet, clean and close to everything on the north shore.
