Very expensive for what you get A review of Hilton Tampa Airport Westshore
We arrived in Tampa on the morning of September 4th 2004 trying to outrun Hurricane Frances from our holiday in Orlando. Orlando airport had shut and we got a flight from Tampa. Then when we got to Tampa that Airport shut and we were stuck in Tampa for five days! The room was quite nice and had a nice view of the hotel pool but the service was not good at all. We understood that it was the weekend of a Hurricane but for the price we had to pay $109.00 we got no cleaning service, no top up of coffee for the machine, one day they did take our towels and then never returned them until we had to request them. When we requested more coffee and creamer, plus soap and shampoo it was handed in in a bag and had no creamer in it. And our toilet stopped working too and we had to make 2 calls before someone came to fix it later in the day. We were given a key to another room to use that toilet and then later in the day when we needed to use it again they were people in it (and we still had a key!). My daughters birthday was the Monday when most places were still shut and I requested that perhaps they could find me a cake or get their restaurant to send up a big slice of anything for her. Well the day went by and eventually we went out ourselves and drove around until we found a Wal Mart which was open and got one ourselves. The restaurant is VERY expensive and the manager rubbed us the wrong way. Coffee on a morning was awful and always cold and if you asked for hot coffee they took the same cup and just microwaved it! The toaster was broken and only one side worked and when we asked if there might be another in the kitchen were given a sour look. And this is when the hotel was quite full with stranded travellers. The pool was not cleaned until the Wednesday morning (the hurricane passed on Sunday) and even then it was mirky and did not look clean. I would never stay there again and never recommend it to anyone. It is expensive and the service is lousy. I dont care if there was a hurricane. It is the Hotels job to ensure the safety and comfort of its guests during a time like that and they failed miserably and really made little effort. The hotel we were in in Orlando (Homewood Suites on Internationa) was wonderful in ensuring that you had your comforts of coffee, toilet paper etc even if you did not get a cleaning service. We are used to Hurricanes in Barbados and our hotels would not treat its guests so shabbily.
