Very Disappointed in the doubletree lowell A review of UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center

To whom it may concern; Friday February 6, 2004 we booked two adjoining rooms, king beds, smoking at the Double Tree Hotel in Lowell, MA for Valentines Day 2004. The reservation was made via Hotel.com. I called the hotel on Monday February 9th to confirm the reservation particulars, I was given a verbal confirmation that our booking request would be honored on Saturday 14th and asked to call back on Friday February 13th to reconfirm, which we did and the hotel told us they would call us back to confirm, which they did about fifteen minutes later. Upon arrival at the hotel on Saturday February 14th, our booking request was again confirmed at the front desk at check in. Once in the hotel room, we realized that the rooms were not adjoining. After calling the front desk to advise them of the wrong room assignment, we waited a half hour for the hotel to assign us another room. At this point the hotel could not provide us with king beds, but confirmed we could have adjoining rooms, two double beds, smoking. After settling into the second room assignment, we noticed no ash trays, so I called the front desk to arrange the delivery of two ash trays. Those ash trays were never delivered, even after calling the front desk again to remind them of our request. Not that this was not enough to spoil our Valentines Day adventure, but the coffee maker in the room did not operate properly. Not that it has anything to do with the room assignment, but in reference to the overall Hotel offerings, I personally thought that the service and meal we had at the River?s Edge Restaurant in the hotel was below the value expected at a Four Star Hotel. I guess the fact that the restaurant did not answer the phone when we tried to make reservations, should have been a hint that their service was not going to be up to par. I will never book a room at the Double Tree Hotel in Lowell, MA ever again. I hope that this is not indicative of Double Tree standards in any of their other hotels. To compound my disappointment was the fact that the hotel confirmed our reservation particulars twice, both on Monday and Friday before our stay on Saturday February 14th, 2004.
