Very cool! A review of BEST WESTERN Ft. Walton Beachfront
Done in a very 1950's art deco, think the Rat Pack, style with bright pastel colors everywhere, the Best Western in Fort Walton Beach is a hip place to stay. Great views of the ocean are available, and man is that water pretty... Emerald green and sugar white sand beaches that you thought were only in post cards.
The pool is nice, and the pool bar is well stocked and manned by fabulous bartenders. Inside, you'll find the Swizzle Stick Lounge, the coolest Martini Bar in the Destin area! The bartenders are the best in town, and they make the most fantastic martini's here. Don't forget to keep a few plastic monkeys and a mermaid swizzle stick or two as reminders of the fun you'll have in this intimate and hip lounge.
While there is no restaurant at the hotel, you are just a few minutes away from some of the best dining in the entire Destin area! For the most part, the food is better, and at least 15% less expensive than in Destin itself, so make sure you try the local establishments before braving the traffic to Destin.
Places to go for dinner are:
The Old Bay Steamer for steamed seafood. No, they don't serve fried seafood, hence the name... They do serve the best darned seafood in the entire area, and the prices are downright reasonable. The homemade honey viniagrette salad dress is to die for, but make sure you save room for your entree! There is just no other place in the area to go to for good seafood!
Pandora's Steakhouse for steaks and prime rib. Great steaks and prime rib are what Pandora's is known for, as well as their awesome wine list. Prices are affordable and the ambiance is cozy.
Italian food... Now you have 2 great choices on the Island, Pranzo's and Giovanni's. Food and wine lists at both are top notch. Ok, don't make me have to choose. Try both! You won't be sorry.
French food. Ok, hands down the most romantic dining spot in the entire Destin area is The Bay Cafe. Dine on the deck overlooking the water. Very small and intimate, The Bay Cafe is my favorite dining spot in all of the Destin area. Incredible food, great wine list, friendly service, and what a view! Please don't pass this one up.
Elegant dining is to be found at The Summerhouse. This renovated old mansion has great views of the water, a wonderful menu, and a great wine list. Service is of course, superb. A lovely evening out is guaranteed.
BBQ... Mmmmm! The home of "comfort food" is just over the Brooks Bridge at the aptly named Brooks Bridge Barbeque. All of your favorite homemade southern comfort food can be found here at very affordable prices. It ain't fancy, but it's GOOD!
So why make the drive into Destin when you don't have too? The Best Western in Fort Walton Beach is a great palce to stay. They rates are quite affordable, and there's just so much to do! Just remember... There's just no need to go spend a fortune on "tourist food" at the big restaurant chains and tourist traps. Try the places the locals have been eating at and enjoying for years!
