Finally a first-class hotel very close to SMU. It took them a long time, but the property, formerly a rundown mess, has been transformed to a very elegant, Zen-like oasis. We enjoyed the atmosphere from the moment we entered: wood floors, fireplace, chic decor. Our king room was very well appointed, especially with great lighting. Marble entry way and bath, comfortable bed with lots of pillows; big, nice towels. However, we thought the room was a bit small. Ate at the restaurant for dinner. It was filled with trendy-looking locals in the bar. Food and atmosphere were just as elegant and good as the rest of the hotel. Texas Monthly gave the restaurant a good review in the Jan '07 issue. Also enjoyed the nightly wine reception in the lobby. Our only problem was that our room was very warm. We had to run the A/C for the two days we were there, while the outside temperature was in the 30's. We will stay there again, because of the location and we considered it a good value.
