Value, Location, and Price plus Breakfast A review of SpringHill Suites Anchorage Midtown
I live in Anchorage, and in the winter of course, its cold. Since we don't have a swimming pool in the back yard, more and more families are choosing to get away for a night or two and enjoy the pool, hot tub and other amenities that the hotels in the city have to offer. Therefore, our family has stayed in several and toured many other hotels in Anchorage. My daughter recently stayed at this hotel with a group from her church who were having a girls Sunday school party and chose the
Spring Hill Suites.
I was impressed with this hotel. Here are some of the reasons why I choose this hotel as best for the dollar.
Understand that there are several hotels within a 1 mile radius of this one. Nothing right next door in terms of accomdations, but close by. I will speak of winter rates, however. Springhill's rate was $79, Hilton Garden Inn was $99, and the Hilton Hampton Inn was $95 for a January evening, Friday night.
The advantages of staying at the Srpinghill Suites is as follows...
(a) Large rooms. I've looked at Hilton Garden Inn, and the Hampton Inn down the road which are comparable hotels. I believe that the rooms at Spring Hill Suites are nicer, larger, and better laid out. Though there is no "separate room" the existing layout is nicely done and rooms have a small refrigerator and a microwave. Handicapped rooms are available as well. Keyed entry into the hotel and all rooms are secure, inside the hotel. Workout rooms with three or four machines, and vending nearby. Remember, I live here year round. The pool is not facing the front parking lot, as with the other two previously mentioned hotels.
(b) Location. Very short walking distance to Wal-mart, Outback Steakhouse right across the street, the largest movie theatre in town with the only stadium seating in town right next door. Pizza Hut restaurant right next to the Wal-mart. Also, Wal-mart has a McDonald's right inside the store. Furthermore, this hotel is right on the bus line, which will take you downtown or wherever you need to go. The Loussac Library is also 2 blocks up the street, which is the largest library in the city of Anchorage. Someone was doing some incredibly good planning when they located this hotel here. It's not right in the
middle of downtown (3 mi. away) but this hotel is within walking distance of numerous activities and very strategically located. There is also a Wayne's Texas Barbeque on the other side of the road, near Outback Steakhouse that is reasonably priced. All of these restaurants are within easy walking distance of the hotel.
(c) Breakfast. Can't speak to this because I personally didn't eat there, but it sounded good for the dollars.
Anyhow, if you are looking to save money and not rent a car, there is alot to do in this location and a short hop downtown to the malls and tourist attractions by bus. I would strongly recommend this hotel.
