Unique and lovely experience A review of Waimea Plantation Cottages
We just returned from spending 9 days at the Waimea Plantation Cottages. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The grounds are beautiful, each of the cottages are completely individual, and the place could not be less "mass market" in its feel.
We stayed in one of the smallest cottages they had, a single bedroom cottage. It had a fully equipped kitchen, and two showers, one indoors and one outdoors. The air conditioning was somewhat marginal, but breezes at night kept us cool enough without it.
Even though it did not overlook the ocean or the groves, there was a beautiful and fragrant frangipani tree facing the porch, and a mango tree across the way from which fresh ripe mangoes seem to drop every few minutes. The grove at the back of the cottage had avocadoes and lime trees and many beautiful flowering plants. The grounds are a botanical garden, with banyans and coconut palms and many other trees and flowers.
This is not a place for people expecting 21st century resort perfection. The pool is really for children, maid service is only every third day, and the roosters really are a serious problem if you have trouble sleeping. But if you want a charming getaway cottage in a romantic setting you won't do better than this. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
