** Two Star Resort A review of Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort
This is a TWO STAR resort. It is priced like a two star resort...and the typical guest is one who frequents two star resorts.
-A/C broken in our room
-Cappaccino machine in coffee shop broken
-Video camera for golf instruction broken
We choose Shawnee Inn over a more expensive three star golf resort. Based on the price and the reviews on the web, we knew what to expect...and our expection was right-on. One reviewer described it as "Freshman dorm", and that is a good description. In addtion to no A/C...our room had an odor.
It wasn't fancy. The restaurant (Charlie's Place) was extremely disappointing. The food was unremarkable, and the service was worse. We were warned about the restaurant... but tried it anyway for lunch. At a peak meal time, we were one of only two occupied tables in the entire restaurant. It spite of that...we waited 35mins for a wrap and a sandwich. Sam Snead's Tavern (5 min walk from resort) was excellent. Indoor tavern, Dining room, and Outdoor deck made for nice options. Highly recommended. The Thai place in town was also good.
The golf course, itself, was bright spot. It has recovered from the floods of last year. The design was great...the condition could have been a little better. The golf instruction was also disappointing. (Perhaps we should have gone to the Faldo school at Marriot in A.C.) The instruction we received at Shawnee was one star at best.
There were a lot of things to do (canoeing, fishing, tennis, pool, hiking, golf, etc) at the Resort. The Delaware Water Gap area was beautiful.
If we returned to the area, we wouldn't be staying at the Shawnee again. We would play the course again.
