Try the Ramada! A review of BEST WESTERN Plus Newark Airport West
This negative review is prompted by the fact that upon getting to Newark Airport we had to return to the Hotel in order to pick up our car which we had left there. The claim check said that a shuttle would arrive within 15 minutes of the time we called the Hotel. When I called the Hotel the person who answered said that a shuttle would be sent immediately. One hour and three phone calls later the shuttle bus arrived. During that time at least 25 - probably more like 50 - shuttle buses from the Ramada, Marriott, Comfort Inn and numerous other area hoptels came by to pick up or deliver travellers. It turns out that the one Best Western bus that was operating had been dispatched - not to the Airport - but to Penn Station Newark. The Hotel representative with whom I spoke after waiting 30 minutes with no shuttle admitted this is what had happened. He said he had no exact idea as to where the shuttle was, but he knew that there was "a lot of traffic." The Best Western Newark website states that they provide shuttle service from the Hotel to Penn Station for a fee. Clearly, a decision had been made to collect that fee by sending the shuttle to Penn Station, even though this meant that persons wishing to go to or come from the Airport would not be provided for. I was sufficiently troubled by this experience that I sent a formal complaint to Best Western which did follow up on this.
Their suggestion: Best Western Newark would provide me an upgrade to a jacuzzi suite on my next visit. I told the woman who called that only a terminal leave of my senses would ever find me back at the Best Western Newark. Apart from the transportation problem, the Hotel is in a trult terrible neighborhood and is sub standar in all respects exc ept for the fact that the tomb like room we had was large. Caveat emptor!
