Top Notch Resort A review of The Sagamore
The Sagamore is an absolutely fabulous resort. My family vacationed at the resort for three summers and we have never been disappointed. My husband and I have spent many vacations at luxury resorts (eg. Four Seasons) and we agree that the Sagamore provides Top Shelf accomodations.
The beach in the summer is absolutely fabulous, especially if you have children. However, there are plenty of quiet places to sit and enjoy the spectacular view of the lake. The service is impeccable. We have always stayed in the Main Hotel and have always been extremely pleased in the appointments and cleanliness of our rooms. In reading some of the less favorable reviews, I can understand that some guests may not agree with the policies of the Sagamore. The hotel does expect a certain level of conduct from its guests. A dress code is in place, and children (although very welcome at the resort as a whole) are not permitted in the five star restaurant or the veranda for dinner.
Bolton's Landing is a lovely little town and walking distance from the hotel. There are inexpensive family restaurants, quaint shops, and an ice cream parlor. One night we were stranded in town during a thunderstorm. I called the Sagamore, and a van arrived within five minutes to take us back to the hotel. Very nice.
As for the expenisve rates, well, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a five star experience at one of America's oldest and grandest hotels you won't mind paying the price, otherwise there is a Holiday Inn down the road.
