Tired and Grubby A review of Menzies Strathallan, Birmingham
This hotel would have looked nice when it was last decorated, which was probably in the 1980's, it is now tired and grubby and desparately in need of some attention. Our room was an 'exec' room and was enormous, but that was because it doubled as a meeting room! The bed pulled down from the wall and was SO uncomfortable I slept on the sofa. It literally was a double camp bed with saggy springs that dig into your back! The quilt and pillows were probably bought from a poundstretcher shop, the worst ever - lumpy and too hot. The bathroom was minute! And due to the design of the building, the wind howled all night long so sleep was a long time coming. The bar is shabby and more of a local's pub than 4* hotel bar. My only compliment goes to the staff who were pleasant and helpful, even though I'm sure they had to deal with loads of moans. This should not be given 4* status, it is a three star at most. If you can find somewhere else to stay, go there! I won't be staying in a Thistle hotel again.
