This Teacher Grades It A+ A review of Wine Valley Inn & Cottages - A Broughton Hotel

To celebrate my off track time, which is the equivalent of summer vacation for year-round schools, my husband and I wanted a quick getaway to a beautiful location for one night. We selected the Santa Ynez Valley and checked out many hotels on line.

We were intrigued by the Wine Valley Inn and Cottages. It sounded just like what we were looking for-quiet charm in an attractive setting. We weren't disappointed, in fact, we were thrilled at what we found.

We were given personalized service at check in. We had an adorable cottage surrounded by a lovely garden with a koi pond right ourside our cottage door. It's an older hotel, but the cottage was clean and seemed to have been recently updated. It was spacious with a king sized bed, sofa and two comfy chairs around the wood buring fire place. There was a large dining room table with four chairs, a small yet ample kitchen area and a medium sized bathroom. Outside our room was a secluded patio with chairs, table and an in-ground Jacuzzi.

After a day of hiking in the hills above La Purisma Mission we had planned to check in and quickly hit the streets of Solvang for some wine tasting and dinner. Our cottage was so inviting that we didn't want to leave the tranquil and hospitable environment. After a quick trip to the mini mart for fruit and cheese and a stop at a downtown winery to select a bottle of wine, we settled in for the evening. It was a wonderful way to relax, unwind and de-stress in a very pretty setting.

We were impressed at the attention to detail given by the staff. From the manager, the host, the housekeeping and grounds keeping staff, everyone was accomodating, professional and helpful. When we needed logs for the fireplace, housekeeping arrived within seconds of our call with a huge stack of fire wood. Breakfast is included in the price and was a perfect way to begin our morning. It's an established hotel, and yet it was very nice to be in one's room and not have sensors attached to each item to monitor the guest's whereabouts. It was clean, cozy, comfortable and a wonderful way to spend our time in Solvang.
