This Place Has Problems A review of Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Bloomington / Airport / Mall of America
Just came back from a four day stay at the Hospitality Inn & Suites. Although the price was good, the service wasn't. After the first night of our stay, we came back from a full day's shopping at the Mall of America to find that our room had not been cleaned. The best the front desk could offer was fresh towels as "the housekeeping staff left at 1 p.m."
That night, I discovered that the "air-conditioner" only blew out hot air. The hotel's excuse for this one was that "if the outside temperature is cooler than 68 degrees, the building's air-conditioning unit shuts down." The problem, however, was that the room was VERY stuffy and warm and there was no way to air it out. It made for a very warm and uncomfortable night's sleep. The front desk had no portable fans either.
The third morning of my stay, I received a call from the front desk at 8 a.m. informing me that my credit card wasn't valid. Why the front desk had to call at 8 in the morning on the THIRD day of my stay was beyond me. Anyway, the card I had booked the room with (as well as given to the front desk at the time of check-in) WAS valid; the front desk just "had to run it a third time."
Finally, although housekeeping showed up the next day and made the beds, they left no facial tissues or toilet paper, just broken bars of wrapped soap in the bathroom.
The shuttle to the Mall was hit or miss at best. Although the front desk makes you call ahead and reserve a spot on the tram, it frequently ran at least a half-hour late. Once at the Mall, getting picked up was worse. It was supposed to arrive every hour on the hour but was never there at that time during the four days I waited for it to arrrive. I ended up taking the Courtyard's shuttle instead.
There are too many other hotel choices around the Mall of America for anyone to put up with such incompetence and ineptness. The Courtyard by Marriott is only a block away, and I've stayed there on three prior occasions. For a little more $$, it's far superior to this place.
