The Velda Rose: it's character outweighted the negatives. A review of Nu Velda Rose Resort Hotel
I have a mixed review of the Velda Rose, but... ultimately we were happy there and had a great time. On the positive, the hotel is a cool throw-back to the era when Hot Springs was a booming spa town, and the public areas like the lobby, restaurant, elevators, and bar are very nice (leather sofas and chairs, fountains, brass, etc.). In addition, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The VR also has a cool third floor terrace adjacent to the pool that is very well-kept. There are several tables & chairs w/umbrellas scattered amongst lots of plants & flowers. The pool itself is neat and unique. It is built on the third floor and although it is outside, it is covered by the fourth floor, etcetera. It, too, had a cool throw-back feel. We also liked having a covered parking garage. The negatives? Well, there were several but we laughed them off because we liked the hotel's feel. The balconies needed painting badly; the rooms & hallways had a slight musty smell (I forgot the Febreze!), and the bathrooms b-a-d-l-y need an update. We also got a kick out of the very old but well-functioning television! Looked like one from The Brady Bunch era! Overall, though, we liked it. It is also w/in easy walking distance of Bathhouse Row and all the cool downtown shops.
