The secret is out about this B&B! A review of Absoluut Verhulst
The Absoluut Verhulst was one of the best B&B's we stayed in during our three weeks in Belgium and France in September, and we highly recommend it for many reasons.
One is location - it's in a quiet part of town, yet only a 5-10 minute walk away from the Burg and the Market square, two almost adjacent town squares with enough history to make you almost want to forget about visiting museums. In fact, we covered an awful lot of ground in 2 1/2 days touring the amazing, living outdoor museum that is Bruges, and never felt short-changed! There are several excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk, and Frieda will provide you with a hand-drawn map with all you need to know about eating, shopping and sightseeing in Bruges. There is also an internet/phone cafe about 3 minutes away, and a laundromat within a ten-minute walk - also important and necessary conveniences!
Another reason we loved this place was our room (the Garden Room)- bright, spacious, quiet, with a king-sized bed, a serene view over a courtyard garden with pond, lots of space to hang clothes, and a spotlessly clean bathroom with a huge, walk-in shower. The only trick is navigating the steep flight of narrow steps down to the bathroom. It is ensuite, but on a lower level, and just adds to the charm of this wonderful 400 year-old house. But make sure you have the lights on if you need to heed a nocturnal call!
Last, but not least, Bruno and Frieda's generous hospitality, and their wonderfully presented and filling breakfasts (served up in the glassed-in breakfast nook adjacent to the garden), leave you wanting for absolutely nothing. In fact, only one other B&B we encountered in France actually measured up to the comfort, cleanliness, convenience, and reasonably-priced luxury of this delightful spot! We hope to be back, but now that the secret is out, we'll have to reserve a good while ahead!!
