The rates rock! A review of SpringHill Suites Anchorage Midtown

I stayed at the Springhill Suites last night for the very first time, and was impressed with the courteous and friendly staff on duty.

The rooms were very clean and tidy, all with wireless internet at no charge which was a nice perk.

The continental breakfast provided was very decent - everything was lovely and fresh. Anchorage Daily newspaper, Bagels, muffins, fresh bread, carrot cake or zucchini slice. There was fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals and hot oatmeal, boiled eggs, and a waffle maker - and everything was clean, fresh and very well presented. A variety of coffee, juice or hot chocolate was available also.

All rooms are airconditioned - and believe it or not, you often need to use it as it can get hot and stuffy inside.

We had only two qualms with our stay, and one was that our bed was made really poorly - the sheet on the bottom did not go all the way to the end of the bed, so our feet were on the plain mattress all night which was sort of uncomfortable.

Our other qualm was the price of in-room movies. They are charged at $12.95 per movie, but if you accidently hit ANY button on the remote while watching the movie, it is automatically stopped and cannot be restarted. To continue with the movie you have to pay all over again. This is really stupid! We could not pause the movie, take a toilet break, and made sure to put the remote well out of reach in case it was touched accidentally during the movie.

The extras were at a minimum - soap and shampoo was all that was provided, which was sufficient. The cost of the hotel was really decent at $89 for winter prices! Definitely worth the money, and we could live without our little sewing kit, or body lotion on this trip (these usually end up in the suitcase on the way out the door anyway).

The Springhill Suites is located right next to Century movie theatres, and the reception staff print out the movie schedule daily for customers to look over. Hot tea and coffee is available in all rooms, or in the downstairs lobby at all times.

On site, there is an exercise room and pool. I never understand though why hotels put their exercise and swimming facilities right near the lobby with big glass windows for everyone to look in. I'm a modest person, and would feel uncomfortable using the facilities with everyone looking in.

Overall, well worth the money, nice clean rooms and a great breakfast in the morning - topped off with super friendly helpful cheerful accommodating staff members, all wearning nice big smiles!
