The only place to stay in New Orleans! A review of Elysian Fields Inn

From the minute we saw the Inn we knew we had made the right choice. Built in the 1860's and having recently undergone a 2 1/2 year refurbishment it has been restored to it's former glory and more. Staying at the Inn you really feel you are in New Orleans rather than in any other city. The Inn is beautifully furnished, each room has Brazilian mahogany flooring, super furniture with ample drawers and cupboard space, DVD, CD and video as well as air con and ceiling fans. The bathrooms are all in Italian marble, our room had a jacuzzi bath and shower which was heaven after each day at the jazz fest! There was a large communal room where the most delicious breakfasts were served with a different menu each day and also a sitting area with an extensive video and DVD library as well as 24 hour free access to the Interent. Guests also had access to a kitchen and a giant fridge stocked with complimentary water.Service at the Inn was better than anything you would get at a 5 star hotel with nothing being too much trouble - we felt we could ask for anything and we would have got it! The owners were so welcoming, making our stay in New Orleans such a memorable one.Elysian Fields Avenue is in the heart of the Fauborg Marigny right next to the French Quarter. In some guidebooks this area is not considered a good neighbourhood, however this is how the area used to be - now it is very much up and coming. This is by far the place to stay in New Orleans with fabulous restaurants on your doorstep ranging from Cajun to Creole to Mexican to Middle Eastern and much more, with a different jazz club to go to every night on Frenchmen Street (Snug Harbor, Cafe Brazil, DBA, The SpottedCat, Blue Nile) - 5 minutes walk away. Forget Bourbon Street which is just too tacky to mention - Frenchmen is where the real jazz is played. We felt very safe walking around there late at night and enjoyed being only a few minutes walk away from the Inn rather than having to rely on taxis. All in all if you want to experience the real New Orleaices then stay at the Elysian Fields Inn!Sarah and Julia, London England
