The most wonderful placed I have stayed.. A review of Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa
My husband and I visted the Amari Trang in Oct 2004 when the hotel was just a few months old.
We had had a few days at the Amari Atrium in Bangkok (fantasic city centre hotel too!) and having experienced the hussle and bustle of city life we were looking forward to getting away to the coast.
After a short (1 hour) flight down to Trang, we were first ataken back how clean the air was!
Secondly, we totally unexpected the wonderful welcome we were given. A very smartly and traditionally dressed lady greeted us and gave us a cool drink, flower and refreshing hand towel.
On arrival to hotel (approx 40 min drive) we were so taken back to the beauty of the area and hotel.
In the reception we were guided to a seat and offered a very refreshing welcome drink and more flowers. Check in cards were bought to you!!
We were then shown to the room and WOW what a treat! I had never seen such a big bed! The bath is enclosed by glass sliding doors so you can watch telly as you soak! The balcony was lovely and large with its own fan.
As the hotel was quiet we were upgraded to a superior room that overlooked the pool. Later in the holiday we did have the opportunity to view a suite and these are fab too!
There were three wonderful restuarants to choose from and although these are not included in the price, are very reasonable and well worth the money. The breakfast was wonderful too!
The staff in the hotel are absolutley fantasic - so courteous and friendly. We did meet the manager and his wife (both Dutch if I remember rightly) who also bent over backwards to make your stay wonderful.
The hotel has a wonderful, air conditioned gym and a fantasic health spa. If you don't do anything else while here - have a massage! It was a marvellous experience.
There is not alot to do in the immediate area, but just turn left out of the hotel gates and walk for a couple of minutes there is a little bar.
We did, however take a taxi to Trang itself and we would certainly recommend this. It is perfectly safe and an excellent place to buy gifts.
One trip we did from the hotel was the speed jet trip. Firstly, it takes you to Emerald Cove where you have the opportunity to swim through a tunnel (be warned it is very dark!!) to a beach that is only accessible by this tunnel and is like walking into a scene of the "Lost World"! If you do go, please make sure you wear long sleeves and if possible, cover your legs with leggings or such like, as when we came back through the tunnel there were loads of tiny jelly fish that sting! It may have just been the time of the year, so check first.
Also on the trip you visit the Amari day resort - it wasn't finished when we were there but the views are fab.
Overall, I must say that this has to be the best place I have stayed and I have stayed in many fine hotels around the world.
Visit now before it is enveloped by tourism!
