The good, the bad and the ugly A review of The Bay Club at Waikoloa Beach Resort

Let me start by saying we had a great time. Check-in went quickly with minimal problems. We were in Unit 421, which is across the street from the office, activity center and pool. Overall a good location for what they have. The unit was clean, large enough and comfortable. The people in the activity center were very helpful and we were able to get good discounts on tours since we did the time share presentation at the Hilton. In my opinion this property is better suited for couples, older and younger, if you have kids, they will not be happy with the pool (boring) or lack of access to the beach. The kids were very dissappointed once they saw the Hilton property across the street. My daughter referred to it as paradise. We did not spend alot of time on the property, choosing to do day trips around the island. They do have a place to eat at the hotel and it is not bad.

Another thing we did not like was that it was a long drive to Kona a good 45 minutes on a two lane road. If you stay at the Hilton or Marriott, there is enough to do, if not you will do alot of driving. If we return to the big island ,we would stay at the Hilton, Marriott or in the Kona area.

We had one major issue with are unit, I woke up at 1:30 in the morning and smelled something burning. I could not figure were it was coming from. The next when we returned, our unit still smelled. A call to the front desk, got us a maintance guy who arrived with an air purifier, took one whif and stated he would call his supervisor. She arrived shortly, and was very helpful. She had the maid clean the room, and had maintance change the A/C filter. This was done quickly. It turns out that the guy downstairs had burned pork on the stove and security had to go in and wake him up. The whole building had this odor for days. It would come and go but it did get better.

All and all, it worked, but we would probably not stay there again, I thought it was a perfect place for my parents.
